Dr. Brooks is a CT native, having grown up in Weston.

He went to college at Washington and Lee University, graduating near the top of his class with a 3.8 GPA. At Washington and Lee University he was elected into the AOA Pre-Med Honor Society as well as the ODK Leadership Honor Society. He founded the Stonewall Jackson Hospital Premed Student Volunteer Program.

He has always been active in sports, having played football and thrown the shot-put in high school. His current sporting interests include cycling, running, and triathlons (he has completed an Ironman Triathlon in the top 10% of finishers, several half-Ironman triathlons, he has won his age group in both the KIC IT Olympic Triathlon, and the Ridgefield Triathlon). His interests also include woodworking and carpentry, powerlifting, skiing, and spending time with his family of five.

He went on to Columbia University for med school, where he ascended to #1 in his class by the end of the Second Year, winning the Mc Graw- Hill Book award.

Dr Brooks went on to Brown University for ortho residency.

Following residency, Dr Brooks did two fellowships to become a sub specialist: the first was at Brown in Orthopaedic Trauma, then he went on to St Luke’s-Roosevelt in NYC for a Hand and Upper Extremity fellowship.

Following his training, Dr Brooks joined OSSM in 2005 and has been here now for 17 years.

Dr. Brooks was the first surgeon in Stamford to perform complex pelvic fracture surgery. He was also the first in Stamford to offer endoscopic carpal tunnel release, a minimally-invasive way to surgically treat carpal tunnel syndrome which cuts the recovery time in half compared with “traditional” carpal tunnel release.

Dr. Brooks was also invited in 2020 to be a reviewer for the Hospital for Special Surgery Journal. Additionally, Dr. Brooks has been an Oral Examiner for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery since 2019.

Dr. Brooks has recently published peer-reviewed articles on thumb arthritis surgery, hand extensor tendon injuries, and carpal tunnel syndrome.

Dr. Brooks has been named a Caste Connolly Top Doctor for the past 5 years, and was chosen for CT and NY magazine’s top docs multiple years as well.

His practice philosophy is to first and foremost, listen to the patient. To understand the nature of the complaints, and to do a careful physical examination. Only after this does he rely on diagnostic testing such as Xray, MRI, ultrasound, etc. By far the most important to him is understanding the patient fully, to listen, and spend the time needed to make sure he understands the patient and vice-versa. He always looks at surgery as a last resort, and makes sure nonsurgical treatments are used first (unless there is a surgical emergency, of course).

He lives in New Canaan with his wife, Alexis of 25 years and their 3 children.
